CHOICES is a non-profit community-based organization that provides services to latina women, high risk youth, pregnant teens, parenting adolescents and their families.

CHOICES addresses the social, environmental an psychological issues that pertain to culture and gender.

Upcoming Programs

Choices is committed to providing the best possible health education. In that endeavor we are pleased to announce that we are currently working on creating a partnership with California State University Los Angeles. This partnership would involve having two components which are:

students taking a series of courses to develop their skills in working with the local community women and
implementing workshops, that are developed directly from the courses that the students complete, for the local community women that would teach them positive health behaviors. This partnership would involve students of the University being involved in taking courses to develop and implement health promotion programming.

In addition to this, we intend to offer students the opportunity to create and become involved in evaluation programming.

It is our goal to establish a program that creates a bridge for community women to become engaged in a university setting. We are planning on offering health promotion workshops on the campus to women in the surrounding East Los Angeles area. These workshops will be designed by the students attending the courses. The main emphasis of these workshops will be to teach women positive health related behaviors. The main health issues that we will concentrate on are obesity, diabetes and coronary heart disease. The overall outcome of these workshops is to create an opportunity for community women to improve their health behaviors and quality of life through changes in lifestyle. The overall goal of the partnership is to create a community-academic environment where both students and community women can become health advocates.
